Inspection
Have a certified professional inspect your current insulation along with identifying if there is any pest activity. All pest activity needs to be eradicated before new insulation can get installed. This ensures that the new insulation doesn’t get recontaminated.

Once the pest activity has been eradicated then the next step is to remove the old and/or contaminated insulation and sanitize the area. Sanitation is always recommended as well especially if you find mold, moisture, rodent urine, rodent droppings, rodent nesting materials or even worse dead rodents. Insects can also use your insulation for nesting material along with carrying infectious diseases.
We will make sure that any contaminants found in the affected area will not spread to the rest of the house during the removal process. Once the old insulation has been removed and the area has been sanitized, it’s time to install the new insulation. The type of insulation that is installed and how much of it you need will vary. Spray Foam Insulation VS Eco-Friendly Mineral Wool Insulation
Spray Foam Insulation
The higher the R-Value of an insulation product the more effective the insulation. The high R-value of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) makes it more effective at reducing air leakages than any other insulation. Closed-cell polyurethane foam insulates 50% better than traditional fiberglass and cellulose insulations. SPF can reduce 40% of the home’s energy lost through air infiltration and exfiltration.
Polyurethane spray foam is also a vapor barrier that protects buildings against moisture. Protective barriers prevent the occurrence of mold and mildew, therefore it can be used for outdoor applications as well as indoor applications. Its strong and solid structure adds structural support. Spray foam is also used to reduce noise and to provide heat and moisture control. SPF reduces the transfer of airborne sound thus acting as a sound barrier through doors, walls, or floors. It also improves the air quality by sealing out allergens.
Spray foam is durable, long-lasting, and cost-effective. Spray foam insulation may be a bit more expensive than the traditional cellulose and fiberglass insulation, but when compared to the energy savings the investment in spray foam makes economic sense.

Insulation Checklist
Here is a list of items that need to be done before the installation day arrives:
- Wear rubber, latex, or vinyl gloves along with proper face covering when cleaning areas.
- The space needs to be properly ventilated to allow fresh air to enter the area and to remove potentially contaminated air from the area.
- All items must be covered or removed from the treatment area.
- When removing items be sure to place them into an area that is well-ventilated and has direct sunlight for proper inspection.
- Some contaminated materials, such as clothing, books, etc. can be decontaminated, and items that are no longer needed can be discarded.
- Note that a dust mask may provide some protection against dust, molds, and insulation fibers, but does not protect against viruses.
- All items must be covered or removed from the treatment area.
- Ensure proper access to all treatment areas including the floor and ceiling.
